Building a Frictionless Future for Healthcare
Introduction
The future of healthcare is data-driven. With an ever-growing need for seamless access to medical information, Sydney-based startup Health Bank is taking a bold step towards integrating healthcare data and telehealth into one streamlined ecosystem. Founded in 2019 by entrepreneur Steven Arthur and clinical dietitian Robbie Clark, Health Bank aims to revolutionise how we manage health information and connect with specialists.

How a Sydney Startup is Transforming Healthcare Data - The Vision: A Smarter, More Connected Healthcare System
Health Bank was built with a clear goal: to centralise healthcare data and use it to create personalised, preventative care programs. Arthur envisions a system where real-time data analysis empowers patients to make informed health decisions with minimal effort.
“I want a system of healthcare where we’re able to make informed decisions in a very efficient timeframe, perhaps up to a point of real time,” says Arthur. “That will allow patients to make much better decisions. It’s your health information being utilised for your own benefit.”
From Desk Space to Health Bank: The Startup’s Evolution
The roots of Health Bank can be traced back to Desk Space, the collaborative co-working hub in Darlinghurst that Arthur founded in 2009. It was there that he met Clark, who was developing a symptom-tracking platform for patients. However, they soon realised that manually entering data wasn’t sustainable—patients lost interest over time.
In 2019, they pivoted to Health Bank with a mission to remove as much friction as possible. “We want to create the most frictionless healthcare system on the planet,” Arthur says. “No one should have to engage with their health program every day – it should be doing stuff in the background and surfacing information at times when it has the most value.”
What Makes HealthBank Different?
Health Bank is not just another tele-health platform—it’s a dynamic, patient-centric system that connects individuals directly with specialists while ensuring secure and seamless data sharing. Here’s what sets it apart:
- Effortless Specialist Matching: Patients can find the right practitioner with transparent pricing and availability.
- Secure, Direct Communication: No more insecure emails or texts—practitioners can securely access vital information without risking privacy breaches.
- No Data Selling: Patient data remains private and is never shared or sold.
- A Lifeline for Healthcare Practitioners: Health Bank is free for practitioners, providing an advanced platform that helps reduce admin workload, combat burnout, and improve patient outcomes.
“We’re trying to take away all the administration and give them a free piece of software to use that’s more advanced than the status quo,” says Arthur. “Patients get much more time and attention than in primary care, and a much more advanced level of treatment.”
The Growth of HealthBank
Despite still being in its beta stage, Health Bank has seen remarkable growth. The platform expanded by over 500% in 2023, with plans to launch a shopfront offering 4,000+ health-related products, including home-testing kits. Arthur’s entrepreneurial background plays a key role in the company’s success. Since founding Desk Space, he has been involved in launching multiple startups, mentoring emerging founders, and fostering a community where innovation thrives.
“If somebody outgrows the space, that’s a metric of success,” Arthur says of Desk Space. “The by-product isn’t our occupancy: it’s about what we’ve created. Seeing any of the members succeed is what drives me.”
The Road Ahead
With Health Bank rapidly scaling, Arthur is doubling down on its impact. “Health Bank has probably now taken pole position,” he says. “It’s quite a complex project. I really want to have some impact here. I love Desk Space and it’s still my baby, but I want to get Health Bank to the point where it’s having a real impact at a population level.”
As Health Bank continues to grow, it’s clear that this Sydney startup is on a mission to change the way we interact with healthcare—making it more seamless, efficient, and accessible than ever before.
