Meet the Members: Tess, Creative & Marketing Manager at Maybe Sammy Cocktails
Introduction
In this "Meet the Members" feature, you'll get to know Tess, the Creative & Marketing Manager at Maybe Sammy Cocktails. We were eager to discover how she landed this role and what she finds most fulfilling about the projects she works on.

"I've run my own agency for a long time and was offered the opportunity by the team at Maybe Sammy Cocktails to join them in-house.After working with the team in a freelance capacity for many years, I decided to take the leap. I love the people I work with and for, and I thoroughly enjoythe freedom and breadth my role offers to exercise my creativity in every facet of the business."
Early Beginnings in Social Media
When asked about her motivation to start a career in this industry, Tess shared an inspiring story from her high school days: "I had run a successful foodie social media account at the age of 17, amassing 20k followers! I also had numerous brand partnerships, including notable names like Coles and Lululemon"
Academic & Career Path
Tess initially pursued psychology at university due to herinterest in human behaviour, but her passion for marketing soon took over:
"II was actually studying psychology at uni because Iwas genuinely interested in human behaviour, all while pursuing social media onthe side. However, I decided to switch degrees to marketing (as marketing fundamentally is psychology!) as my 'freelance' career was truly taking off. Myniche has always been food & beverage/hospitality, and I love it"
During her university years, Tess's work in hospitality allowed her to explore another passion—coding. She taught herself how to code, managing social media pages and building websites for the cafés and restaurants she worked at, with one of them still operational today!
Creative Pursuits Beyond Work
We were curious about Tess's creative side outside of her professional life. She shared:
"I wrote a book when I was about 22!I stillwrite outside of work, but I don't draw as much anymore. It's the creativeconundrum—when creativity is your work, you sometimes tend to lose energy toexercise those brain muscles outside of work. I find a lot of joy andcreativity in my home space. I have a passion for interior design, I supposeyou could call it—I love doing DIY projects."
Academic & Career Path
Finally, we asked Tess if she had any professional advice for those aspiring to start a career in the same field. She offered somevaluable insights:
"It's hard work being a creative, and there are plenty of long hours, tough feedback, and scope creep. But I believe thatunderpromising, overdelivering, and being a friendly person to work with havetaken me a long way in my career (that's not to say I haven't had to work onsetting boundaries, though!)."
Tess's journey is a testament to the power of passion, hard work, and creativity. We're thrilled to have her as part of our community andlook forward to seeing her future accomplishments.
